The 2022 H2H – the Hadlow Fun Run Walk Jog
Great morning of fun and exercise for everyone!
Our club organises the H2H: Hadlow-to-Harbour fun run, walk, jog, an invigorating morning out for anyone. Some children get pushed along, others scoot and some ride small bikes. Many dress up, setting unusual challenges even. About 1000 people enter at their own risk, choosing either the 10km Hadlow or 3km Countdown start. There are free buses from Caroline Bay to the Hadlow start and everyone is eligible for great prizes presented at the finish event.
H2H is an annual non-profit community service to promote fun and exercise, while remaining affordable so whole families and groups can take part. Approved groups may also fundraise by accumulating their own sponsorship, raise funds and excite members about exercising, all at the same time.
The generosity of long term sponsors ensure a number of South Canterbury charities benefit from the proceeds each year. Our members join with many other volunteers to run the event each year.
Decades in the making
As a fun run, it has a long history in Timaru stretching back to the early 1970's. During 1986-7, it was adopted by our club and rejuvenated by past member Harold Moyle. He saw this as a "golden opportunity not only to raise funds for the heart foundation but to promote fitness on a community scale". The New Zealand Heart Foundation continues to be among today's benefactors. Harold said "...the Timaru Herald was our major sponsor as without their support there would have been no run." By year 2000, under Dick Brown's leadership, the event had to be reinstated again as it "was just too much for the Rotary Club and the Heart Foundation to handle." said Harold. Multiple sponsors were encouraged, the volunteer base widened, and the event consolidated. The event has run every year since. In 2009, the SCDHB became a major supporter and sponsor under the initiative of past and honorary member Charles Vincent generating funds sufficient for multiple charity donations. The event has been further refined and developed under the leadership of Reese Hart and currently Noel Crawford. After three years of sponsorship by Holcim, Alpine Energy is our current sponsor.
