Timaru North has lost one of its own, one of the good guys, one of the team.

It is with sadness that we record the passing of Gilbert MacDonald.

Gilbert was a member of Timaru North Rotary from 1986 until a couple of years ago when he became an Honorary member.    He was one of our quiet members with lots of heart and one who could never do enough for Timaru North and its members.  He was president I think 1990-91 and guided the club through the minefield of introducing women into Rotary.   This was accomplished with the minimum of fuss, a fair amount of humour and by the book.

Gilbert was a panel beater, the owner of Noel Brady Ltd at the seaward end of North Street and I am sure many of us called on him at some stage!

Away from work in his spare time Gilbert loved skiing, Fox Peak, cars, anything mechanical, and latterly fishing.  He had a great deal of knowledge about how things worked and could turn his hand to anything mechanical and just sort it.

He was a great family man and was very proud of his children, their achievements and of course his grand children of whom he has seven.

Jenny please accept our heartfelt condolences for your loss, he was well loved, respected, and liked by all.

Gilbert has left us but will be remembered by us as a quiet, sincere, and very capable person.    One of the good guys

Gilbert, rest in peace,  I for one will miss the time that we spent together.

At Gilbert's request a private funeral has been held
