Presidents Time:
President John welcomed members and guests.

The Robbery:
Harley Smithson took to the floor and took our money.

The Weekly Investment (raffle): Won by Noel Crawford.
Experience is suggesting that when you eventually do win the wine (but there is no guarantee of that happening), its going to be one of the most expensive bottles of wine you have purchased for a very long time. So what are your odds of winning/losing? Using an online 'odds' calculator I plugged in the following: only one person is able to win the wine, and on average 30 people  buy a ticket, this gives you a 3.23% chance of winning and a 96.77% chance of loosing. Perhaps next weeks speaker will have some ideas of what else you could do with your weekly wine investment...

Guest Speaker:
Our guest speaker was John Gregan. John shared his adventures, with his daughter, on the Coast to Coast. John, a fellow Rotorian from Waimate, spoke of the personal, physical and financial commitment to participating in this event.

This event is restricted to 1400 people who pay $2,000.00 just to enter. There is then the costs of getting to the Coast, a support crew, equipment (bike, canoe, running shoes, etc) which John says can total about $10,000.00. That's serious commitment for the pain that you will endure during the event.

Any Timaru North Rotary club members wishing to participate should start training now - and save up for the entry fee!

Scribes - an important notice:

As the bulletin will be sent out on Sunday evening, so people have time to see their upcoming duties, etc. scribe notes must be emailed to the Bulletin Editor (Tony: Anthony.Brien@xtra.co.nz), no later than 5.00 pm of the Sunday after the Thursday meeting. If no scribe notes are received by that time, they will not be included in the Bulletin.

Roster of Duties: The roster will be emailed to all members. Please check your duties.

Member information update:

Else advice by email geoff@cloake.co.nz and he will make the changes for you.

How the world is different...
A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?" The survey was a huge failure. In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant. In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant. In South America they didn't know what "please" meant. And in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
